Our Story

We are Curt and Sandra. We both work full-time jobs, and after hours we roast coffee in a detached garage at our home on Park Road in Reading, Pennsylvania. That is the whole operation: two people, one roaster, and a lot of evenings that smell very good.

How it started

Curt has been drinking coffee in one form or another since he was a teenager. Travel turned the habit into a fascination: French espresso, Swedish kokkaffe, bold, heavy-bodied cups that needed no cream or sugar, Blue Mountain coffee in Jamaica, and the mountains of Mexico. Trips to Costa Rica and Guatemala shaped the origins we started with.

Somewhere along the way, Curt mentioned that he had always wanted to start a coffee roasting business. As 2026 rolled in and we were talking about plans for the future, Sandra asked the obvious question: why had he never started?

He did not have a good answer. Sandra said, "Let's go!"

So we did. We spent the first months sharing coffee with friends, neighbors, and family, and sold our first bag around June 2026.

Why "Beans on Park"

It is our address. But when we started, we were also both working on Park Roads, at three different locations between us. At some point the irony was too good not to put on the bag.

What we roast, and why

We focus on light roasts, with the occasional medium. Light roasting lets you taste where a coffee came from and how it was grown and processed: the fruit, the sweetness, the things that make a Guatemala different from an Ethiopia.

A lot of people think of coffee as dark roast, and that is fine. A lot of everyday coffee is roasted dark, and a dark roast tends to cover up what is in the bean. We would love to show you what lighter coffee can taste like. No syrup required.

We also take decaf seriously. Our decafs are roasted with the same care as everything else, because people who drink decaf deserve coffee that tastes good too. Read how our decaf is made.

What matters to us

  • Coffee we want to drink. That is the one thing we would never trade away, even to grow faster.
  • Community. We would rather lift up other small businesses than compete with them. Everyone in this business offers something a little different.
  • Learning. We are always learning about coffee, and we love sharing what we find out, at the market table or in our brew guide.

If people say one thing about us when we are not around, we hope it is this: they love great coffee and their community.

Come say hello

You can find us at markets and pop-ups around Berks County. The question we hear most is "which one is your favorite?" Come ask us in person. See where we will be next, shop our coffee, or, if you run a café, cart, or restaurant, ask about wholesale.
